One of my all-time favorite storage hacks (especially for small bedrooms) is to move the dresser inside the closet. 😎

But this can be a little tricky too! Here are some of my best tips to pull this space-saving hack off!

1 - Measure your closet CAREFULLY to ensure the dresser will fit. It can be incredibly frustrating to get a heavy dresser MOST of the way in only to realize it won't actually fit or the drawers won't open! 🤦‍♀️
2 - Consider removing the closet doors to help with drawer clearance.
3 - Adding a custom cut "topper" can prevent items from falling off the back/sides AND give it a custom "built-in" look.
4 - Add some whimsical wallpaper, a bulletin board, or other organizers on the closet wall behind the dresser to amp up the style and functionality.
5 - Use a shorter dresser to maintain some usable hanging space for shirts, pants, or kids' clothes.
6 - Outfit the high closet shelves with baskets to take advantage of even more storage space!

Pretty much every DIY project you see on my site is made using tools we keep on hand.

But being renters who move every few years, we never have the luxury of a dedicated tool workshop.
