As promised, I am popping in today to show you how we added some much-needed storage for under our “new” play table!

This drawer has actually made an appearance on the blog before! Don’t believe me? Remember this project/post?

Yup!! When we made over this hutch base to become our new media stand, we removed the top three drawers and inserted shelves. These solid wood, dove-tail-joint drawers were still good and sturdy so they were tucked away in the garage for a “rainy day.

Well, enter a “rainy day”!!  If I can rewind a bit…I had been casually shopping for some sort of crate, box, or basket that we could place under the play table to hold extra track, trains, etc. When I was out in the garage working on the first play table makeover, I glanced over to the side of the garage and saw our stack of drawers. I raced in with the largest one to see if it would fit!

Not only did it fit perfectly under the table, but it also comfortably held all of trains and track!

There was no time to make it over in time for Christmas, so it sat just like this for a few months!

See the rest of the transformation after the jump!

When it came time to do the second table makeover, I figured I might as well do the drawer too while I had all the paint(s) out. Here’s what I used to get her done!

I started by removing the handle and filling the holes with wood filler. I then gave it two light coats of primer (with sanding in between) and three coats of the Rust-oleum Red. Once it was painted (and dried), Greg screwed some rolling casters to the base of the drawer (these were leftover from a rolling bookshelf that we never put the wheels on). The last step was to attach a new handle, also leftover from something or other. In the end, this snazzy little storage solution cost us nothing extra to put together. We made the whole thing using stuff we’ve accumulated collected over the years!

Here it is all loaded back up!

The casters make it really easy for the Little Man to pull it out as he wishes, and the pop of bright red is perfect under the mostly white table!

Hooray for a free makeover and a fantastic up-cycle!!

We still have those other two drawers left, wonder what we can do with those??? 😉

We’ve had a rainy, rainy day and we are antsy to go out and play! Hope it’s dry wherever you are! See you Friday – hope to have my Spring mantel up for you to see!

See You Soon!
