Summer Fun Activities Frame

Around here, school is out for summer. Even though Henry only went to “school” two days per week, it doesn’t mean that I am not a bit nervous about how I’m going to fill our summer days, especially because here in eastern North Carolina, we get some pretty hot days that are downright miserable to spend outside! To keep me from falling into a rut this summer (and losing my mommy marbles!), I thought it would be fun to create a summer activities “calendar” of sorts, modeled after the Advent calendar idea you see all over the web. After an afternoon of playing around with some paper and glue, I  came up with a pretty fun way to keep us busy this summer!

I started with cutting these cute little envelopes out of red, blue, yellow and white cardstock from the Bags and Tags Cricut cartridge. Each one measures about 2″ tall, and they are held together with simple clear tape on the backs!

Next, I dug around my stickers and embellishments box and found these silver label stickers I picked up from the Target Dollar Spot months ago! To label my envelopes, I designed cute little coordinating numbers in MDS and printed them on white cardstock.

Embellishing the envelopes was quick and easy! I first punched the numbers out with a 1.25″ punch and then layered a silver sticker and the cardstock number onto each envelope.

These little guys were fun to pull together, and I just love the summer-fun color combination! I don’t do paper crafts a lot, but I really so love the creative process of turning plain ol’ paper into something so fun!

These little envelopes could be used for anything! I printed out a bunch of summertime activities on computer paper, cut them out, and folded them to fit inside the envelopes.

The last step was to load my little envelopes onto my wire frame with little curtain clips. (Hint! This is NOT the Silhouette Advent calendar frame! I DIYd my version and I’ll show you how I did it later this week!)

The numbers can be used any way you need to (or if you don’t like the numbers, you could design cute summertime symbols instead)! The numbers could correspond to the day of the month, you could do an activity/week, you could have your child roll a dice to pick an activity! Whatever works, go with it!

Here’s hoping this frame helps us make a memorable and fun-filled summer this year!
