New to The Organization Toolbox: Printable Household Inventories
Those of us who are list makers will rejoice at this newest addition to The Organization Toolbox! I’ve heard from many of you looking for a simple and streamlined way to inventory various items around your home. From a general “where did I put that?” list to more specific inventories for DVDs, games, books and more, I’ve now got 30+ printable pages to help you remember what you’ve got in your home and where exactly it all is! Let me give you a quick tour of these newest printable pages and share some ideas for using them in your own home organization!
Little by little, I’ve been working my way through the most common requests I get for The Organization Toolbox, and a series of printable inventories has come up time and time again! Although I’ve never really considered using a printable inventory for anything other than what’s stored away in my freezer, I must admit the idea of having things like books, DVDs, baby clothes, entertaining supplies and other household items listed out in one central spot sure does sound convenient!
One of the most brilliant requests I think I’ve ever received is a generic “Where Did I Put That?” inventory…essentially a running list of random items and their locations so you can quickly and easily find them. However, I also had a hunch that many of you might like more categorization to your inventories, so I also included worksheets for the additional 8 categories shown below. Although these inventories may not capture everything you keep stored away in your home, they do represent the items that 1) are most likely put into deep storage, and/or 2) would be helpful to have listed out in one central location. Whether you use them as a collection or just print off one or two, these Printable Household Inventories are sure to come in handy and save you loads of time and stress finding and remembering items you already have on hand!
Like all my printables, I have this full 32-page kit available in both black-and-white and the Rainbow Brights color scheme. They are 100% editable and fully coordinate with all the other printables I’ve released this year. I try hard to make all of my worksheets print-and-go so you don’t have to fuss with editing/typing if you don’t want to. As such, many of the sub-categories for these inventories are pre-typed in for you. For example, books and movies are sub-sorted alphabetically, games are sorted by player number, etc.
However, should you want to organize your inventories in a completely different way, I’ve also included sheets with blank sub-categories so you can organize your items however makes most sense for you!
Let me quickly go through each category of inventories with you and show you each form in more detail!
General Household Inventory
The “Where Did I Put That?” inventory is a great way for keeping track of random items in your home. If you ever put something away and think to yourself “How am I ever going to remember I put this here?” then this is the sheet for you!
This is a single-sheet inventory, and it’s available in both single-spaced and double-spaced format, providing plenty of room to jot down notes and descriptions as needed. I recommend printing off a stack and keeping them in the front/back of your home binder!
Movie/DVD Inventory
I don’t know about you, but figuring out what to watch each week during Movie Night can sometimes be a chore. Not only do we have a hard time deciding on something to watch as a family, but we also can’t seem to remember what we already own. Having all movies jotted down into one simple inventory not only makes movie browsing easy, but it also ensures you don’t re-buy something you already own!
There are two Movie Inventories included: 1) organized by letter, and 2) organized by genre (plus there is a blank sheet so you can type in your own categories too!). I’ve also included check boxes for DVD versus “Cloud” movies so you can quickly find the movie once you decide!

Book Inventories
If you’re like us, books are stretched from one end of the house to the other. Not that they are necessarily strewn about, but we just store different books in different places. This Book Inventory, like the Movie Inventory, can not only help you identify what you have and where it is, but also provide you with one place to browse when you’re looking for your next read!
I’ve included a full Book Inventory organized by letter, as well as that fully blank version to sub-categorize yourself. Like the Movie Inventory, it has boxes to denote if they are physical or virtual books.
Game Inventory
Having a list of games to play can really come in handy, especially when you have friends over. Instead of everyone crowding around the game closet, you can simply peruse the list to see what appeals to everyone!
In addition to the blank version, I’ve included Game Inventories that are sub-categorized by the number of players…which at least in our household, is primarily how we narrow down which game to play!
Holiday Decorations
Although I already have Holiday Decor labels uploaded to The Toolbox, I still thought it would be helpful to include an inventory for all holiday decorations. As such, I’ve included sub-categories to document decor for Valentine’s Day, St. Patricks, Day, Spring/Easter, Patriotic, Halloween, Fall/Thanksgiving, Winter/Christmas, and a blank version to type in any other category you may need.
These are a great way to not only remind you where stuff is but more importantly, what you have…especially as you’re standing in the Target aisle looking at all the new cute stuff!
Entertainment Inventory
If you do a lot of entertaining and have accumulated a lot of different table cloths, chargers, place settings, serveware, cloth napkins and more, then this next inventory is sure to come in handy! When you are throwing your next party or gathering, this single sheet makes it super simple to know what you have on hand without having to rummage through your cabinets!
Electronics Inventory
Have you ever had to replace an electronic item, submit for service/replacement, figure out what battery/cartridge something requires, etc and found yourself Google-ing for all the information? This 2-page Electronics Inventory makes it easy to keep track of all the important/required information for any electronic item you purchase so that you can quickly repair, replace or return it as necessary!
Appliance Inventory
As renters, we don’t really need to keep a running inventory of our household appliances (since they change all the time!), but if we were home owners, I imagine it would be quite handy to have a single location to document where items were bought, what the warranty is, how often it’s serviced, etc. These pages allow you to do just that!
Kid Clothing Inventories
Last but certainly not least, I’ve included a kids clothing inventory. Selfishly, this is something I reeeaaally need right now. Having had two boys, our stash of boy clothes is quite considerable; however, I don’t necessarily have everything in every size and season covered. This print out is perfect for keeping in my purse as I shop/prepare for Baby Boy #3. If I’m tempted to buy cute 0-3 month jammies but can easily see that I have 10 sets already, I (might!) be a little more compelled to hold off 😉

I suspect these Printable Household Inventories will fall into the category of “I didn’t realize I needed them but they are sure are nice to have!” I know in our home, the Movie, Game, and Kids Clothes Inventories are sure to come in handy, and I can’t wait to start filling mine out.
Psssst – You are likely starting to notice that each kit I release matches/coordinates with previous ones (health trackers, calendar pages, etc). By the end of the year, the much-requested Household Binder will be available and all of these mini kits will surely fit right in!

I made inventories when we moved interstate as some of our stuff was in storage, some at my brother’s house, some with my dad, etc., so it was handy to know where specific things were. I also read it’s really helpful to have a household inventory for insurance purposes. Kids clothes inventories are great for when they’re really little and go through sizes so quickly, but also at birthdays and Christmas for the inevitable “what do they need” question (e.g. for heaven’s sake, no more size 4 shirts)!
