Happy Monday and Happy December! Wowza – how is it December already? I hope you and yours’ had a wonderful Thanksgiving week and are home safe and sound! We traveled north to Virginia to spend the week with family. It was a great week to visit and re-charge, and now we are home…ready to take on the holiday season!
One of the things I love most about road trips is that it gives me long stretches of time with quiet hands, a still body, and just my mind to keep me engaged. Essentially, I stop moving long enough to think, analyze, dream, fantasize, problem solve and daydream. In recent days/weeks/months, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to this little spot here on the web where I write and share with all of you. I’ve mentioned here and there that I have been thinking about growing and expanding this mostly “hobby” blog into something more…and on this most recent road trip, my husband and I talked and brainstormed and planned to grow this little blog into a fledgling business in ways that feel healthy and life-giving and congruent with our lifestyle, our budget, and our long-term family goals.
Long story short is that I think I’m ready to do this. In all honestly, I’m not entirely sure what “this” looks like. But I am ready to push myself a little harder, to start to seek opportunities that excite me, and promote myself, my work and my skills a little more. I’ve tackled a lot of things in my life, but for some reason, this whole blog/designer/creative business thing scares me to pieces. I’m scared of criticism and of failure. I am scared of spending time, energy and money to create posts no one will read or like..and ultimately, I am scared that people won’t like me or the things and spaces I create. This blog business is a tough one, and I really don’t know what I’m doing. But I’ve decided that I do fit into this blog world some where, some how, and am ready to carve out and define exactly where and how that is!
As I thought and brainstormed and dreamed this last week, I realized I didn’t have everything I wanted and needed to make plans and decisions. It was like I had the picture of the final puzzle in my head but a bunch of pieces were missing: you guys. On the whole, my blog audience is mostly silent. A few of you are dedicated commenters and “likers” and “pinners” (you know who you are and your effort to comment and like/pin means the world to me ;), but primarily, I am putting a bunch out there without really knowing who you are, what you guys like, why you like it (or don’t like it), how you read it, etc! I’ve taken countless surveys on other blogs and it never occurred to me to host one here until this past weekend. I figured this is the best way to find out who you guys are and why you come to read what I have to say and see what I’ve made!
I really don’t like to beg or whine, but I would REEEEEEAAAALLLLLYYYY appreciate it if you took just a few minutes to complete this little survey. I promise it won’t take very long. Whether you know me personally or not, we talk all the time or we’ve never met face-to-face, I would LOVE to get your thoughts and comments about this little home of mine on the web and what I have to share and how I share it. I’m eager to learn and do better, but I can’t do that without knowing more about how I am being received on your end.
Think of taking this survey as a little Christmas present to me…AND my birthday is on Christmas (honestly!), so it can be a little birthday present for me too! It’s all completely anonymous, and I will not post any comments you leave on the survey here on the blog. Did I mention it would mean the world to me if you took it? Okay – point made, I think 😉
Okay! You ready? I promise it will be quick…here we go!
(If you’re reading this on a reader and the survey isn’t loading, you can access the survey HERE!)
I know work isn’t fun on a Monday and you did’t come here to work, but if you just took a few minutes to complete the survey, I’d give you a big ol’ hug if I could! I am really passionate about what I do here and am just so eager to know what you think too! Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to visit me each time!
Later this week, enough introspection and chatter and surveys, back to the updates we’ve been making around the house! I know I’ve been promising updates for a while, and I do have a few coming down the pike soon – promise!Posted In Blog Business, North Carolina
