I really pride myself on keeping my blog heavy on projects and home updates and super light on campaigns, advertisements, and sponsored posts. In fact, I’ve only done two other sponsored posts in my 2+ years of blogging. When review or campaign opportunities come across my inbox, I do give them all consideration; because let’s be honest, fabric and paint and lamps and rugs definitely add up (even when done on the cheap!). Most times, a particular campaign isn’t a right fit for me or my blog; but whenever an opportunity for a brand I love comes along, I am more than happy to work it into my blog schedule. When I’m doing a review or promo, you better know it’s something I love.
When approached to review Target’s Cartwheel app, I jumped at the chance. You see, I.Love.Target! Target is one store I have remained brand-loyal to for many years. It is my happy place. It’s one of my favorite stops when I am (rarely!) kiddo-free so I can browse the home decor sections and (especially) the clearance end caps at my leisure! I give Target a fair amount of business, between household products, home decor, clothing, office supplies, and groceries, so I am always on the lookout to save money where I can. I didn’t know the Cartwheel app existed before this blog opportunity, so consider me one excited and money-saving Target shopper!
What is Cartwheel?
Cartwheel is a one-stop shop for all current coupons and discounts. Forget having to clip, carry, and remember all your coupons; or scroll through coupon after coupon while standing in the checkout line. Simply download the Cartwheel app, browse through the over 700 available coupons, add them to your account, and present your mobile device (iPhone or Droid) to the cashier when you check out. With a quick scan of the ONE barcode on your phone, all your coupons are applied to your purchase.
Here’s what I mean: once you download the app and sign in via Facebook OR your Target.com login, you are able to get started right away. One of the best things to do is search or browse current offers for things you are 1) shopping for or 2) buy frequently. I went ahead and loaded all of the relevant coupons for home decor items as well as the The One Spot into my Cartwheel. (See below: there are currently coupons for 15% off all Table & Wall Frames, as well as 20% off everything in The One Spot!)
I also noticed there was a 15% off coupon for Circo Kids Bedding. I am in the process of collecting color and design ideas for my son’s “big boy room,” so I went over to check things out. These Circo sheets were already marked down to $15 and then my Cartwheel app would have gotten me an additional 10% off – that’s right, Cartwheel discounts stack on top of current sales and promotions already going on in the store! I almost scooped up these sheets because they would be a great jumping off point for the room, but I wasn’t quite sure. The Cartwheel app shows that my coupon is good for 4 more days, so I have some time to think about it!
There are so many coupons that I didn’t have time to check and browse them all for things I might be interested in. Thankfully, the Cartwheel app has a barcode scanner (that’s really easy to use, I might add!). To see if there is a coupon available for a particular item, scan the item’s barcode in the store and the app will search to see if there are any applicable coupons. I was really digging this huge turquoise jug vase. The scan revealed no additional discounts at this time. Bummer!
The one feature that I really, really love about the Cartwheel app is that all of my coupons are in one spot, so I don’t have to pull up multiple coupons for multiple scans to get multiple discounts. On my most recent stop in Target, I had a small haul in my basket: some thank-you cards from The Dollar Spot, some Starburst candies for my son’s Valentine’s Day teacher gifts, and some granola bars.
One simple scan at the register applies all of these coupons in one swoop. And you know what’s even better? You can continue to use your coupons over and over until they expire. So if I decide I want to go back for more Starburst, I can still get the same 10% off!
I was pretty giddy to see all my savings reflected right on my receipt. On this small shopping trip, I saved $1.60 – not huge, but discounts like these can definitely build up to some hefty savings over time!
Some other fun things about Cartwheel:
- Cartwheel discounts can only be applied to in-store purchases.
- If you’re in to sharing all your money-saving savviness with your friends on Facebook, Cartwheel has a built-in feature to share what you’re saving on as well as see offers your friends have in their Cartwheel lists! This is a totally optional feature and can be managed via the privacy settings.
- When you first sign up, you are allotted 10 coupon “spots” in your Cartwheel list, but you can earn additional coupon spots by reaching savings milestones ($10, $25, $50), interacting with Cartwheel, or via social sharing.
One more fun thing, who wants $1,000 Target GiftCard®?!?
