It was a year ago this past weekend that Greg, Henry and I moved into our current house–our 5th home together. I can’t beleive it’s been a year that we embarked on this latest chapter in our life as a nomaidic military family. Our current base is one that I said I would never ever move to; and wouldn’t you know, it’s been my favorite stop yet thanks to a laid-back pace to life, a great neighborhood, and wonderful new friends. It’s been an awesome year in so many ways, not the least of which are because of the things we’ve been able to do inside the walls of our little house!
From the day we recieved the keys to this house, we have been hard at work filling it with love, personality and a lot of DIY projects. Much to my husband’s shagrin, I have yet to proclaim us “moved in,” as there are some nooks throughout the house that I haven’t quite finished. He often reminds me that this has been our longest move-in ever. In my own defense, so much of this move-in-process has been replacing our first-time furntiure purchases (poor ones) and updating decor that hadn’t been touched in years (all that orange). That said, we are close, really close! Although my goal was to be done (well, as done as a house ever is) by this point, I still wanted to take a minute to reflect on everything we’ve achieved in the last year. We’re still finding our decor style and personality; and while some things aren’t quite right and others are practically perfect, it’s been so satisfying to try new things in this house and really stretch and flex our creative muscles.
To celebrate our one year in our current house, I wanted to look back on all the things that have been made while living in this house. Some projects were small, others took more time, but all were fun and gratifying in their own way. Here we go!!
The entryway was one of the first (and only) spaces I have proclaimed “done!”
The playroom is right off the entryway and is one of the very first spaces people see as they come into our house. Almost everything in this space is a thrift store/Craig’s list purchase or homemade. It’s not signed off as “done,” but it’s close 🙂
For those of you reading for a while lately, you know that the living room has proven to be one of my most challenging spaces to finish. While we made a great start with some big-impact updates, the room was lacking the freshness I crave in a space. However, I’ve been brainstorming and working and think I’m back on track. This room isn’t done yet either, but I know what I need to do to wrap it up!
The dining room is one of my favorite spots in the house. The combination of cobalt blue, bright white, black and leafy green has proven to be an exciting, fresh and lively combo for me. This space is mostly done, I just need to take all those “final” photos!
The laundry room is done and is another favorite spot. I’m falling hard in love with navy, especially contrasted with white; and this room boasts a heavy dose of those two colors. This tiny hardworking room is filled with great organization, fun patterns, and touches of whimsy. All elements I need in every space!
Our kitchen got off to a great start when I completed the (very time consuming) “tile” backsplash, but hasn’t gotten much attention since. I do have a few updates yet to show you that finish off this tiny kitchen, so stay tuned!
The Command Center has been another fun and hardworking addition to our house. Thanks to the feature over at IHeartOrganizing, it’s also been one of my most popular posts.
Henry’s updated “Little Boy Room” was another space that was finished pretty quickly thanks to re-using a lot of things from his old nursery in new and different ways. This room remains one of the most vibrant and fun rooms in the house!
The Master Bedroom has recieved the most attention lately. It was the last spaces to get some DIY love, and I’ve been busy transforming it from a mis-matched cluttered space to a peacful zen retreat.
The Craft Room also got off to a great early start with the addition of my super hardworking craft counter. Since then, though, it’s fallen into a cluttered, un-finished mess. Finishing off this room has been my summer project, and I’ll be giving you a glipse at the updates later this week!
Although we’ve been super hard at work inside, the outside has not gone without some infusion of new plants, vibrant color, and fun DIY projects!
Phew – I can’t believe it. Whenver I am having a down, sad day, I should look back at this post and see all that my two hands (and often four hands with the help of my husband) have accomplished. And what’s crazy is that there a handful of nooks and corners and closets I have yet to show you that are done!! All in due time, my friends!
Crafting has become a huge part of my life as a relatively new stay-at-home-mom–it gives me energy, brings me satisfaction, provides me with a way to wind down and a way to feel productive. Being creative is simply part of who I am; and with each day, I am more thankful for such an outlet. I am brimming with ideas and often feel like I just don’t have enough time to do all that I want. But you know I will keep trying. I am excited to see what more this next year brings!!!
Oh! And just for fun, here’s my little family…then and now 🙂
Thanks to all of you wonderful readers: those who have been following from the beginning and those who are brand new; those who leave comments everyday (they mean more than you know!!) and those of you who don’t but come by week after to week to see what I’m up to. This little blog of mine brings me a lot of joy, and I am so thankful to those of you who make it part of your life too!
As I mentioned, I’ve been hard at work in our Craft Room/Office. For the first few peeks at what I’ve been up to, come back and see me Thursday!!!
