As our time winds down here in our 6th home in Kansas, it’s time for me to start wrapping up rooms and sharing “final” room reveal posts! I use the term “final” quite loosely here. They are “done” in the sense that we (obviously) won’t be doing anything else to them because we’re moving; but to me, and especially when we live somewhere for such a short time, the rooms don’t really feel “done.” Admittedly, there is always more I can/want to do in a room, but with such a short timeframe, I was (intentionally) limited with what I could and wanted to do. That said, Henry’s bedroom is probably the most done and decorated of all the rooms in the house, so it’s a great place to start! And so I present to you, Henry’s “final” Jungle-Themed Little Boy’s Bedroom!

As with every room reveal post I do here on the blog, I like to start at the VERY beginning. So…here are a few shots of Henry’s bedroom the day we arrived last June. It’s a good-sized room (about 10×12′ if I remember right) with one window.  We didn’t paint the neutral walls (although I would have REALLY loved a pure white on the walls), so all of the personality, style and color had to come from our belongings.

One week after moving in, the basic layout and function of the room were set in place…

After a few easy and inexpensive DIY projects, this room really came to life and now perfectly fits our vibrant, happy, energetic, and green-loving kid! Come on in and have a look around!

On the large, main wall opposite the door is Henry’s bed flanked by a faux “built-in.” Floating the bed in this way not only provided some visual interest (rather than just lining it up along the wall), but also freed up some wall space to bring in the black bookcases. Henry didn’t necessarily need the storage, but we had no other place to put them.

This arrangement was born out of necessity, but turned out to be the perfect way to create a functional focal point in the room. I love the look, and Henry uses those cabinets to store all sorts of “treasures,” so I’m pretty sure these bookcases will remain in his bedroom in the next house (space permitting!)

Kids’ bedrooms are always the most fun for me to work on because I don’t have to hold back my use of colors, patterns or fun accessories. And no where else is this more evident than on Henry’s bed.

The combination of his sheets, bedding and pillows work so so well, that I haven’t changed them in the 2+ years I first put the fabrics together! This shot below still makes my pattern-loving heart SO happy!

Henry’s bedroom “design” was mostly hashed out in our last house, and we just carried a lot of the elements forward into this room. Since I wasn’t starting from scratch, I was really able to focus on some smaller details that really complete the room.

Jungle animals are the main “theme” in the space, but the room is also brought together with other elements such as consistent accent colors and pom-pom details (on the pillow, bedspread, and around the bookcases).

I have a tendency to run a theme into the ground. While it makes for a cute room, when we are over that theme it means a whole new room design is required. This time around, the jungle animals are only reflected in a few things on the walls and some accessories. If/when we tire of jungle animals, the basic room design can remain in tact and we can swap out a few accessories. Although, I’m not sure Mr. Rhino will ever leave 😉

Again, we originally put the bookcases in here because we needed a place for them. Little did I realize how perfect they were for the plethora of books and random kid-friendly accessories we’ve accumulated over the years! The cabinets below are filled with Henry’s “pets” (he’s a stuffed animal lover), shoes and backpacks. The lower level shelves (that he can easily reach) are for books we’re reading now. Higher shelves are for more decorative elements and books that are either seasonal, too old or too young!

Placing a simple stretch of wood across the two bookcases not only gave the entire setup a more cohesive look, but provided some awesome display space for things that match the space but Henry really doesn’t need to be touching. All in all, this setup is a winner for us!

In recent weeks, we added a miniature-sized upholstered bench for Henry to sit on to get dressed, put his shoes on, and play with his pets. It’s been a great little addition to the room, both functionally and aesthetically…and it’s getting ton of use by all of us!

In every room I’ve done for Henry, I’ve always included hooks because they are just too convenient for getting things off the floor and keeping commonly-used items handy. These are hung right by the door and hold his bath towel, frequently worn sweatshirts, hoodies and hats!

Like most kids, Henry loves displaying the work and projects he brings home from school. Little did I know that the simple little DIY bulletin board I did on a whim would get so much use! The real struggle is keeping it whittled down so it’s not overflowing!

Hands-down, one of my favorite things I’ve done in this entire house is the fabric-wall treatment over Henry’s dressers. I really, really didn’t want to re-paint or re-mat the animal frames, but the white frames on the tan wall looked weird. We weren’t going to paint the wall, so the only other solution was to add something behind the frames to contrast with them. The fabric wall feature was inexpensive, easy-to-do, and packs a huge visual punch! The size and scale over the dressers is just so good, and it really brought this side of the room up to match the exciting opposite wall! This concept is definitely going on the “Do It Again” list for the next house!

This room is filled to the  brim with DIY projects! You can see the tutorials for all of these projects by clicking on the photos below!

This is the first time where Henry’s bedroom really felt like Henry’s bedroom. Until now, his nursery/room was literally just a place for him to sleep, get dressed and read books. Now, he plays in his room, squirrels things away in his room, and likes to generally hang out, listen to music and play with his pets in his room. He loves green and loves the items in here…often asking me to get things down so he can play with them (like the wagon and trike). I know he will get more opinionated as he grows, but this room really does reflect both of us in such full ways!

This was the first room I started on, so it’s no big surprise it’s the first one done too! We’ve had some really great memories in this space, and I’m sad to start to take it down here soon. As always, I’m thankful to have the pictures to look back on and remember it by!
