Happy Monday Friends! Thank you so much to those of you who read and commented on my post on Friday. I was really nervous to open up such a vulnerable conversation about “stuff,” but I was so relieved and comforted to hear that several of you struggle with the same things. If you haven’t read this article yet, you can find it HERE!

About a month or so ago, I shared a sneak peek of this little project and with it, I declared a challenge to myself. Despite some busy-ness going on in my personal life and blog work, I committed to make one quilt a month for the remainder of the year. It’s an audacious goal, but as I talked about in THIS post, I really want to better my quilting skills…and since I use sewing time as reflection time, it’s really a win-win for me. The benefit for you is that you get to see the fruits of my labors here on the blog once a month or so! A few weeks ago, I finished this simple and fresh little quilt. However, the baby hadn’t been born yet so I had to wait to show it to you. Well, here I am to reveal Quilt One from my self-administered quilting challenge:

Herringbone Quilt-001

This quilt was a somewhat spur of the moment project. I found THIS technique while surfing around the web one day and immediately had to give it a try – I literally got up from my computer and started pulling fabric out and got cutting! A few cuts and sews later, I had myself a pretty cute little herringbone quilt top, made in just about a day. I specifically chose colors out of my fabric stash to match the nursery of a friend’s new baby. The little guy would be the recipient of this fun and quick little project!

I’m mildly obsessed with this half-triangle-square sewing technique and my next quilt, which I’ve already started, uses a similar process. Quilts overwhelm me when they get too complicated; this is right up my ally because it comes together fast and the end result is so modern and striking!

My favorite aspect of putting a quilt together is selecting the backing and binding. I just love throwing something fun and unexpected in with these two details. I know, blue and white polka dots aren’t exactly unexpected here, but oh-so-fun!!!

It’s a pretty little quilt – it measures about 36″ square – but it’s for a little baby to be used for tummy time or play time so it didn’t need to be too big. It’s also perfect folded up and thrown on the back of a nursery chair to add a pop of color and texture.

This little quilt truly was simple to pull together, so if you’re antsy to give quilting a try, consider something like this! And I like to make baby quilts because they come together pretty quickly and stay a manageable size!!!! Here’s a few others I have done:

And last but not least, here’s a peek at the next one 😉

I hope you all have a great start to your week. I’ll be back on Wednesday with the next update to Henry’s big-boy room! See you then!

See You Soon!
