Quick & Easy Love Birds {Valentine’s Day 2013)

The Valentine’s Day decor is in full gear around here! Did you catch my hot pink outdoor V-Day accents on Monday? The heart-day love didn’t stop outside, my friends! Inside, I’ve been busy adding to my whimsical red and turquoise display from last year with some new and fun crafts. The main feature of my Valentine’s Day display this year are these two adorable cake stands!

Here on THIHM, though, I wanted to show you how I made the adorable “Love Birds” that sit atop of the red cake stand! They took just a few minutes, but are the highlight of my display!

I started with these little guys from the new Spring section at Michaels. They were just a few dollars each.

I gave each bird a coat of primer and a coat of Rustoleum High Gloss White. Once they were dry, I dressed each one up. The male bird got a red bow tie (which is just a ribbon tied around his neck!)…

And the lady bird was given a turquoise bead and sequin fascinator! Oh, it’s the little things that make my heart do a happy dance…I just love this gal’s head gear 😉

The two birds are positioned atop the red cake stand to look as though they are kissing!

They make me smile every time I walk by!

Be sure to head on over to Positively Splendid to see the full tutorial for these cake stands AND get a sneak peak of my whole Valentine’s Day mantel…

I’ll have a full “tour” of my Valentine’s display here for you tomorrow! See you then!

  1. I love the whole love birds idea for V-Day! I haven't really decorated or made much yet for this holiday, I always seem to get in the spirit too late. But this is an other idea I can see myself doing. And to be quite honest, I thought the red bow was the female, and the teal was a hat for the male… oopsies! They are still super cute!
